Prioritize the maintenance of safe and well-kept trails

Trails Rules and committee Charter and policy & Procedure January 4,2017

Over the years, we have observed a continuous cycle of acquiring easements, constructing fences, and creating non-connecting trails that often dead-end, all while incurring substantial financial burdens to benefit a small percentage of our community. While I respect the passion and enthusiasm of those who enjoy our equestrian trails and considering the Governing Documents of our association do not mention trails or provide for any related expenditures, it is crucial that we consider the broader impact on the entire community before allocating resources to such projects.

Approximately 6-8% of our residents actively use the majority of our trails. This disparity raises concerns about the equitable distribution of resources. Are we truly maximizing benefits for the entire community when such a small fraction enjoys these amenities at the expense of everyone else?

Additionally, the expansion of trails increases our community's liability. With more trails comes a higher potential for accidents, injuries, and legal disputes.

Our association should not be burdened with the financial and legal risks of maintaining an extensive trail network that serves only a limited portion of our residents.

We must prioritize the needs of our entire community. Rather than continuing an endless cycle of trail development, our focus should be on maintaining a select number of existing trails that are safe, well-used, and essential to our neighborhood's infrastructure. This approach will help ensure that our community association remains financially sound and capable of addressing the core needs of all residents.

The Board should conduct a comprehensive evaluation of our current trail system. This assessment should identify the trails that are genuinely essential to our community's well-being, allowing us to prioritize their maintenance and ensure they remain in optimal condition. By focusing on these critical trails, we can demonstrate our commitment to responsible stewardship of our shared resources and foster a more sustainable and equitable community for all residents.
